The Author
Stacey H. Rubin, with over
fifteen years experience caring for mothers and babies,
graduated magna cum laude from Villanova University with a
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1988. Upon
graduation, she was commissioned an Army Nurse Corp officer
and served overseas during the 1st Gulf War.
Following fours years of active duty military service,
Stacey attended the University of Florida and earned a
Master of Nursing degree in 1995. After graduation, she
relocated to New England and joined the neonatal nurse
practitioner team at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center
in Hartford, Connecticut.
During the last decade, Stacey
has cared for critically ill babies in the neonatal
intensive care unit, delivery room, emergency room, and the
newborn nursery. Throughout this time, Stacey has observed
first hand the difficulties mothers and babies encounter
while attempting to breastfeed.
Her
passion for mothers and babies as well as her desire to
ease the breastfeeding difficulties she observed led her to
pursue certification as an Internationally Board Certified
Lactation Consultant. Following years of study and extra
clinical hours, Stacey became a lactation consultant in
2002. Since founding her private practice, Stacey has
assisted mothers and babies throughout
Connecticut.
To fully benefit from a breastfeeding
consultation, Stacey believes mothers and babies need to
feel relaxed and supported. For this reason, most
consultations take place in the homes of her clients.
Teaching both new and experienced mothers how to create a
positive feeding experience for their babies is central to
Stacey’s method leading to long term breastfeeding success.
With
proper preparation and expert guidance, most breastfeeding
problems can be prevented. Stacey’s special areas of
interest include refusal to nurse, milk supply issues, and
how birth experiences and maternal emotions impact the
breastfeeding experience. By writing The ABC’s of
Breastfeeding, Stacey hopes to share her successful
methods with mothers everywhere. Stacey lives in West
Hartford, Connecticut with her husband and their two young
(breastfed) children.
